Ace of Hearts
A motion design project where I was tasked with creating a title sequence for a self-made television show. I used my skill set to create a card deck, appropriate type, and make transitions that create a smooth visual movement throughout the sequence.
Inspirations & Moodboard
As we started creating a story for our Television show, I was heavy inspired by movies and games like John Wick, Bladerunner, and Cyberpunk 2077. I wanted to create a show that I would fall in love with and aligned perfectly with my interests.
Story + Storyboard
In a dystopian Seattle, a 24 year old Seattle Native, Kai, with no living parents or family (out of college young adults with a complex and unemotional personality) who is working a normal 9-5 office job. After work he goes to the bar and plays card games with the other regulars. On this night, they play blackjack & poker. During Blackjack, he loses a couple of rounds but when he gets the Ace of Hearts, either when he had 2 face cards, or when he had a 2 & 7. During poker, he does not have great luck and on his last hand, which is a dead man’s Hand, he falls short one card. After the games, the bartender hands Kai the Ace of Hearts, telling him “This might be your lucky card if only you had it in poker” After that gets attacked on his walk home & accidentally murders one of his attackers. He tries to hide and avoid it but the gang of the attacker, a violent criminal mob, with money, power, and cybernetic upgrades like metal arms, blades that come out of arms, etc (run by a big cybernetic man who wears sunglasses, smokes cigars and wears a complex fancy suit) he murders is after him, and learns about him. Kai will have to learn to survive, fight, so he can live. He overcomes his guilt for the murder and becomes a respected individual with the card still with him, giving him the mercenary title, the Ace of Hearts. (by fending off the gang and making a deal with the boss in the end)

The main character evolves from a regular citizen, who just works a 9-5 and lives a normal live, to a feared mercenary that is not afraid to kill.
